A Warm Welcome for Denver Health’s Newest Families

In this Story:

At Denver Health, the first days of life are also the first days of a family’s new chapter. Every year, one in three Denver babies are born at Denver Health. Through Hello, Little One, Denver Health Foundation donors and volunteers have a meaningful way to make that beginning feel supported, prepared, and cared for.

The program provides welcome bags with essential baby items for families delivering at Denver Health. Each gift is practical, but it is also personal. A blanket, a newborn outfit, a hat, or a small care item can carry a larger meaning: your community is standing with you from the very start.

A Joyful Drive-Thru Celebration

That spirit came to life on May 9 during the Hello, Little One Drive-Thru Baby Shower. Donors arrived at Denver Health to drop off baby items and make gifts in support of the program. Along the route, they were greeted by balloons, signs of encouragement, photos of newborns and families, and volunteers cheering for each arriving car.

The drive-thru route was designed around Denver Health’s “Life’s Journey” promise, highlighting services for parents, babies, and children. For many donors, the event offered more than a simple drop-off. It gave them a glimpse of the care Denver Health provides during a family’s earliest and most important moments.

The celebration also reflected one of the goals of Hello, Little One: to create a warm first connection with Denver Health and share the organization’s broader commitment to families. Donors saw that warmth in action as they arrived, with some visibly moved by the volunteers, signs, and joyful atmosphere.

“We heard that donors felt genuinely welcomed and celebrated as they arrived, and that matters,” said Sean VanBerschot, Executive Director of Denver Health Foundation. “Hello, Little One is about more than the items in each bag. It’s a gesture of care from this community to Denver Health’s newest patients and the families beginning a new chapter with them.”

More Than 800 Gifts and Counting

The response continued well beyond the event. Donors, volunteers, Denver Health employees, and community groups all played a part in supporting families as they begin life with a new baby.

By the end of the day, more than 800 individual baby items had been donated. Since then, additional groups have brought in hundreds more, and several community partners have inquired about hosting their own drives in support of Hello, Little One.

That growing response shows the power of a simple invitation. When people understand what families need and how they can make a difference, they show up with care, energy, and generosity.

Hello, Little One is made possible through partnership between Denver Health and Denver Health Foundation, with support from donors, volunteers and community members who believe every family deserves a strong start. Their gifts provide items families can use right away and encouragement they can carry home.

For Denver Health’s newest patients and the families who love them, that support can mean so much. It says: you are seen, you are supported, and your journey begins with hope.

Hello, Little One is . . . a gesture of care from this community to Denver Health’s newest patients and the families.
