The planned improvements at the Sam Sandos Westside Family Health Center are poised to have a transformative impact on the community it serves. The new facility will elevate the clinic’s capacity to provide high-quality care, attract and retain patients, and support the overall health of the west side neighborhoods.

Enhancing patient care and safety

One of the most significant benefits of these improvements is the enhancement of patient care and safety. The expanded and modernized facilities will allow for better patient flow, reduced wait times, and a more comfortable environment for both patients and staff. These changes align with Denver Health’s commitment to ensuring that every patient receives the best possible care.

The long-term advantages of these improvements are clear. Modern facilities and advanced technology will attract more patients, leading to increased revenue for the clinic. This, in turn, supports the financial health of the entire Denver Health network. The improvements will also enable the clinic to offer a wider range of services, meeting the diverse needs of the community more effectively. For example, the new facility will include up to 85 exam rooms, specialized geriatric care, expanded dental services, and community spaces that promote health education and wellness.

“Investing in these improvements is essential for our future,” said Denver Health CEO Donna Lynne. “We’re committed to providing the highest quality of care, and that means having the right facilities and technology. These upgrades will not only enhance patient experience but also support our dedicated staff in delivering the best care possible to Denver residents. Our goal is to ensure that everyone who visits Westside has access to exceptional health care, now and for years to come.”

Community engagement and support

This sentiment is echoed by many in the community, who see the planned improvements as essential to meeting the growing health care needs of the Sun Valley neighborhood and the west side of Denver. Denver Health has engaged patients, community leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure the improvements reflect their needs and desires.

A fundraising feasibility study shows strong support for the improvements, with more than 97% of interviewees viewing Denver Health positively and more than 81% willing to consider a gift to support capital improvements. This community support is crucial for the project’s success, demonstrating the combined efforts of residents and donors in making transformative projects possible.

“We are thrilled about the future of the new Sam Sandos Westside clinic. The community’s appreciation is just incredible, and we are all excited about these improvements,” said Stephanie Hernandez, Clinic Administrator at Westside. “These changes will make a huge difference for our patients and boost the overall health of the neighborhood. We see many opportunities to offer exceptional care, streamline our services, and create a welcoming environment for everyone.”

Strategic impact and future goals

The strategic impact of these improvements extends beyond the immediate benefits to patient care. By enhancing the clinic’s facilities and services, Denver Health is also continuing to position itself as the most trusted health care provider in Colorado. The improvements will help to attract top medical talent, foster innovation, and ensure that the clinic remains a vital resource for the community.

Over the next three years, Denver Health will replace Westside’s current 50,000-square-foot building with a new three-story, 82,500-square-foot facility. The rebuilt Sam Sandos Westside Family Health Center will feature welcoming reception areas with privacy barriers, multiple elevators for improved accessibility, and an energy-efficient design. The exterior will have enhanced lighting, additional security cameras, fencing, and traffic control measures to ensure safety. Inside, the facility will offer specialized geriatric care, expanded adult and pediatric dental services, and community spaces for clinic neighbors and staff. There will also be dedicated areas for employee well-being, ensuring excellent care for both patients and providers.

Denver Health remains dedicated to providing exceptional services and facilities. The improvements at the Sam Sandos Westside Family Health Center are a testament to this commitment. These upgrades will not only enhance the quality of care but also strengthen the clinic’s role in the community.

Philanthropic support and community commitment

Philanthropy is essential to realizing these improvements. The support from generous donors will bridge the gap between the clinic’s current state and its future potential. This funding is critical in ensuring that the center can continue to serve as a health care beacon on the west side.

“Community support and philanthropy are absolutely vital for making these improvements a reality,” said Denver Health Foundation Executive Director Crystal Potter Rivera. “We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of our community, and we hope that many will consider supporting Denver Health in this endeavor.”
