Peña Family Encourages Support for Denver Health on Colorado Gives Day

In this Story:

For Federico Peña, Denver Health mirrors his lifelong dedication to health equity. It also carries a deep, personal significance.

The former Denver mayor’s two daughters were born at Denver Health, and it’s where he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He said his family’s health care challenges motivated him to support the city’s essential health care system.

“If you don’t have a healthy community, you don’t really have a community,” Peña said. “Denver Health is really the backbone, in many ways, of providing health care to the broader community.”

As grateful patients and dedicated supporters, Federico Peña and his wife, Cindy, encourage others to support Denver Health Foundation, especially on Colorado Gives Day, Dec. 10. This annual day of giving is an opportunity to come together as a community and ensure that Denver Health continues to provide compassionate, high-quality care to all who need it, regardless of income or background.

“Denver Health has been a source of hope and healing for so many,” Cindy Peña said. “We’re honored to support this institution that serves as a lifeline for our friends and neighbors.”

Federico Peña, who served as Denver’s Mayor from 1983 to 1991, has always advocated for the city’s underserved communities. Cindy Peña, a former Denver Health Foundation board member, shares her husband’s passion for ensuring that all Denver residents have access to quality health care.

Their contributions have not only supported Denver Health Foundation’s mission but have also left a tangible impact on the community. In 2016, the Federico F. Peña Family Health Center opened its doors, embodying their vision for accessible, equitable care. Today, it is Denver Health’s largest federally qualified health center, serving more than 111,000 unique patients.

Your gift on Colorado Gives Day helps Denver Health Foundation continue its mission of supporting programs that transform lives. The impact of community generosity extends far beyond one day; it helps Denver Health build a stronger, healthier future for everyone in Denver.

Join Federico and Cindy Peña in making a difference. Mark your calendar for Dec. 10 and be part of a movement that champions health equity and supports Denver Health Foundation’s essential work.
