Leading with Compassion: Patti Klinge and Connie McArthur’s Lasting Impact

In this Story:

At Denver Health, stories of generosity are woven into the fabric of care. Few shine brighter than the generosity of Patti Klinge and Connie McArthur, longtime supporters of Denver Health Foundation. Their journey is a reminder that philanthropy is not only about financial contributions but also about showing up with trust, leadership, and compassion when the community needs it most.

Leadership in action

Patti’s commitment to Denver Health began in 2019 when she joined the Denver Health Authority Board. She later became Board Chair, guiding the organization through critical moments of change. She also served on the Community Health Services Board, continuing to bring her insight and dedication to Denver Health’s mission of delivering care for all.

That leadership translated into action in 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic reshaped life in Denver and beyond. Patti and Connie were among the first individual contributors to Denver Health Foundation’s COVID-19 Urgent Response Fund. Their generosity brought immediate relief to caregivers and patients by covering essential costs like repairing surgical gowns and providing warm meals to frontline workers during long, difficult shifts. In a time of uncertainty, their support offered stability and hope.

Compassion across generations

Their giving has touched lives at every stage. For Denver’s youngest residents, Patti’s donations to the Newborns in Need program provided “Warm Welcome” bags filled with essential supplies for new families. The program, which will soon be renamed Hello, Little One, continues to ensure every baby is greeted with care and compassion. One father shared, “The warm welcome bag was the nicest thing anyone has done for us as new parents.” With half of Denver’s babies born at Denver Health, gifts like these ripple outward to strengthen the community.

Patti and Connie have also cared for those who care for others. Their support of RESTORE, a peer-support program for Denver Health employees, has provided thousands of moments of emotional and psychological aid to frontline staff. From doctors to nurses to paramedics, the program helps providers stay resilient, grounded, and ready to serve patients.

Building a healthier future

Equally important is their trust in Denver Health Foundation’s ability to respond to emerging needs. Through gifts of appreciated securities, IRA distributions, and unrestricted giving, Patti and Connie have empowered Denver Health to invest in innovation, expand patient-centered care, and reach communities where health resources are scarce.

Beyond philanthropy, their presence at galas, celebrations, and community events underscores their ongoing commitment. Whether honoring first responders at the Paramedics Awards Celebration or helping shape the future of care through the Westside Family Health Center Feasibility Study, they continue to lead by example.

Together, Patti and Connie embody the spirit of service that defines Denver Health’s history and future. Their story reminds us that generosity is more than financial. It is about standing alongside caregivers, families, and communities to ensure a healthier Denver for all.
