Dr. Krugman is a distinguished professor in pediatrics and child abuse and neglect at the CU School of Medicine’s Kempe Center, where he previously served as director. He is a member of the National Academy of Medicine and, following his retirement as dean of the CU School of Medicine, he co-founded the National Foundation to End Child Abuse and Neglect (EndCAN).
In addition to serving on the Denver Health Foundation board, Dr. Krugman has been on the Board of the Colorado Symphony since 2016, serving as Co-Chair from 2021-2024. He is also a past member of the Denver Health and Hospital Authority board.
Dr. Krugman earned his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine. In July 2024, The Kempe Foundation launched The Richard D. Krugman Professorship in Child Abuse Policy, Practice, and Prevention endowment with the aim of attracting leaders in the field to conduct research, create new prevention measures, and formulate impactful policies to improve the well-being for vulnerable children and families.
