Denver Health patients and community benefit from thoughtful giving

Denver Health Foundation reached new heights in 2023, driven by ambitious fundraising goals and significant donor support. Denver Health Foundation donors contributed more than $20 million in 2023, showcasing their dedication to Denver Health’s mission of ensuring the physical, social, and economic health of Denver.

A diverse group of individuals and organizations, united by a shared commitment to the health and well-being of our community, came forward as champions of Denver Health, giving to a wide range of Denver Health programs and areas of service.

Elevating health care, investing in Denver

Denver Health’s core mission revolves around the commitment to providing accessible, high-quality health care services to the communities it serves. At the heart of this mission is the belief that everyone, regardless of background or circumstance, deserves equitable access to comprehensive medical care.

Through innovation, community engagement, and a focus on health equity, Denver Health strives to be a leader in health care delivery, setting standards for excellence while emphasizing inclusivity, collaboration, and a dedication to serving the public good. This overarching mission drives the organization’s initiatives, partnerships, and daily operations, shaping Denver Health’s role as a cornerstone of accessible and compassionate health care in the community.

In 2023, renowned Denver entrepreneur Rose Andom, a dedicated ally of Denver Health, donated $55,000 as an unrestricted gift, aligning her support with our health system’s core mission and enabling Denver Health to allocate philanthropic funding wherever it is needed most.

Andom purchased her first McDonald’s franchise in Kansas City in 1992 and later became a successful franchise owner in Denver. She has contributed to various leadership groups, serving as Vice Chair of the National Black McDonald’s Operators Association. Denver’s Rose Andom Center, which opened in 2016, received its name through her significant lead gift. Her years of generous support to Denver Health Foundation—including gifts of $50,000 or more the past three years—underscores Andom’s commitment to Denver and health equity in our community.

“Gifts that support Denver Health’s core mission are transformative acts of kindness,” said Megan Fisher, Denver Health Foundation Director of Major Gifts. “These gifts enable Denver Health to provide exceptional health care, promote individual and collective wellness, and make a lasting impact on the whole community.”

Empowering parents and newborns

Denver Health is committed to the safety and well-being of expectant mothers through its Maternity and Pregnancy services, placing a strong emphasis on comprehensive and caring assistance throughout the entire journey to parenthood. These perinatal programs, employing a multidisciplinary approach, provide pre- and postnatal care, education, and support services to address diverse needs and promote positive maternal outcomes.

From routine check-ups to specialized care for high-risk pregnancies, Denver Health’s maternal health programs prioritize the physical and emotional health of expectant parents, contributing significantly to enhanced maternal health outcomes and fostering a supportive environment for growing families.

Roots & Wings Foundation has been a steadfast partner of Denver Health Foundation since 2020, actively supporting Denver Health’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and our health system’s core mission. Their commitment remains strong as they have extended their generous funding into 2023, granting nearly $700,000 this year to support maternal health and perinatal health initiatives that focus on children’s health from birth through age three to ensure a strong start for parents and newborns.

“Philanthropic investment is critical for advancing maternal health programs at Denver Health,” said Phoebe Montgomery, CNM, NP, Director of the Denver Health Doula Program. “Donor support enables us to enhance care, expand services, and make a lasting impact on the well-being of parents and their newborns.”

Expanding employment opportunities in Denver

Denver Health is dedicated to creating an inclusive health care environment. By promoting diversity in the workforce and implementing strategies to address health care disparities, Denver Health works to ensure that all patients receive culturally competent and equitable care.

Leading this effort is Denver Health’s Workforce Development Center (WFDC), dedicated to promoting professional growth in the health care field. Denver Health, through the WFDC, is committed to developing a skilled and diverse health care workforce, focusing on education, training, and assisting individuals in advancing their careers in various health care roles. The WFDC achieves this by partnering with educational institutions, community organizations, and industry leaders, providing opportunities for skill-building, mentorship, and career development.

In 2023, The Cigna Group Foundation supported the WFDC by providing a $125,000 grant for the Medical Career Collaborative Program, also known as MC2. This transformative program opens doors for students to explore, train, and eventually contribute to the health care field.

Thanks to The Cigna Group Foundation, Denver high school students will spend time at Denver Health investigating careers in health, medicine, and biosciences. As a result of the MC2 initiative, these students will attain certifications through Denver Health-sponsored programs.

“With philanthropic support, dreams become opportunities,” said Amy King, Chief Human Resource Officer at Denver Health. “Donor investment in the Workforce Development Center is crucial. That kind of support shapes careers and builds a healthier, more resilient community.”

Denver Health employees give in every way

This year, the employees of Denver Health continued to show exceptional support for Denver Health Foundation. These individuals, who dedicate themselves daily to the well-being of the community, demonstrate extraordinary generosity by extending their contributions beyond their vital roles.

In 2023, Denver Health employees have raised more than $390,000 through Denver Health Foundation to support the core mission. Given the selfless nature of their day-to-day work to support the equitable provision of health care to the most vulnerable in our community, each philanthropic gift becomes an act of profound generosity, highlighting the depth of their commitment to enhancing the health of the community they serve.
